ABOUT ME
I’ve been illustrating picture books since my first publication Little Platypus (Nette Hilton, CBCA Notable Book) in 2000. Since then, I’ve had more than a dozen picture books published worldwide, including award-winning picture book and stage production Boom Bah! (Phil Cummings), Ballroom Bonanza – an animal alphabet picture book that I both wrote and illustratedDinosaurs Love Cheese and Good Dog Hank (Jackie French), and Pooka (Carol Chattaway) winning the 2013 YABBA award. You can view the full list of all of my publications and awards on my Books page.

I’ve been teaching picture book illustration since 2002. In May 2016, I started teaching online with Skillshare, adding to my Character Development Series each month. Head over to Online Classes to preview all classes and to find out more about Skillshare.

Online Classes Character Development

Skillshare offers a safe (ad free) platform to host my online Character Development Series. For only 99c for the first three months, you’ll have access to over 2,000 creative classes as well as my 7 plus illustration classes. With a new class each month, my bite-sized, multi-platform video classes will guide you through character development and illustration techniques.

Mentoring 1:1 Guidance and Suport

I’ve recently started mentoring illustrators in the process of character development, storyboarding and picture book illustration. Alongside my online classes, I offer one-on-one meetings, working through ideas, approach, reviewing and planning progress to help you achieve your best work. If you’re interested in discussing options for mentoring please contact me.

School Visits Talks and Workshops

Entertaining and informative my talks are tailored for small and large groups, across a diversity of ages and capabilities. I use a PowerPoint alongside sketches, dummy books, press sheets and original artwork to explain character development and the art of visual storytelling. If you’re interested in a talk, please complete the following form and I’ll be in touch.
